Last Day of School

HAPPY LAST DAY OF SCHOOL!
I hope all my kiddos have a relaxing and safe summer break and know that I will miss you terribly next year!! My husband, Benton, and I are moving to NE Kansas to be closer to family and I am lucky enough to be staying home with B next year. Thanks to the Marshall staff and folks of Eureka for making me feel like family since the beginning.
Keep loving and making music!

February's Composer of the Month

This month's composer is Johann Pachelbel! He was born over 363 years ago and his music is still played today! He is most well known for his wedding processional-Canon in D, but he has many other beautiful works that we explored as well. Ask your child about his life and be amazed at what they learned :)

January's Composer of the Month

In January, 3rd-6th grade learned about a wonderful composer, Fanny Mendelssohn! We learned that growing up in the 1800's while being a woman, presented Fanny with countless obstacles she had to overcome in order to be a successful musical composer and performer. The kids enjoyed hearing stories about her being a child prodigy and even an awkward moment with the Queen!

Kitty Cat Capers

What a purrrfect program 2nd grade purrrformed! The kitties sang, danced, and meowed their way into the hearts of the audience with the hopes that they would be "adopted" and taken home at the end with their parents. Look how CATastrophically cute they looked in Kitty Cat Capers:

Making the Band!

5th Grade put on a spectacular show, Making the Band! The show captured the musical magic that can happen when the young (gamers) and old (mechanics) team up to create a garage band. The kids absolutely loved learning classic rock songs and you can tell easily by looking at their faces!

Gershwin's Magic Key

January 26th, the 6th grade attended a music field trip, "Gershwin's Magic Key." The production was presented by the Wichita Symphony and told the story of a chance meeting on the streets of NYC between a poor newspaper boy and the great American composer, George Gershwin.  The orchestra magically wove Gershwin's hits into a drama as the master composer shared stories about his life and musical passion. They explored the vast melting pot of American music and discovered the key to unlocking the boy's own musical potential.  Special thanks to Babson Foundation for funding this wonderful experience!
